WALTHAMSTOW, E17

The given location was E17, Walthamstow ”… a town in the London Borough of Waltham Forest”1 Since the area of Walthamstow was incredibly huge and due to time inconvenience to visit the site as a group, we have divided ourselves in pairs and separated the tasks amongst us to in order to complete the project. As a group we did not have a chance and opportunity to inspect the whole of Walthamstow and engage with the area, however each member shared his/her experiences of the set location within Walthamstow by another member in the team.

My partner and myself have mainly concentrated on Walthamstow Village, trying to find exciting places. Having visited the library on High Street, we have found Vestry House Museum address in one of the books, Vestry House Museum became my main resource for this project. I have found many interesting features inside, exploring Walthamstow very carefully. However, the source which I have used beforehand were not very useful, therefore, by going to the museum myself and by walking around Walthamstow, really helped me to understand the location more. Personally, the division of tasks has worked well for our team, however had few disadvantages and influencing the final outcome of the game. The time was managed carelessly due to insufficient attention to the project and time inconvenience of visiting the site. Therefore, the completion of the game was made only when each couple had visited the site, leaving the completion of the game until last minute, putting pressure on each member of the team. Also the advantage of combining and sharing the ideas as a group in order to produce well thought game was not fully utilized, mainly due to separation. However, each couple has contributed to the game enormously, remaining responsible for their tasks, provided the game with fascinating proposals and good resources of Walthamstow, yet weakening our presentation skills of the game due to lack of time. The significance of the final presentation of twenty clues became apparent to us only when we have received the other groups’ scavenger hunt game.

The scavenger hunt game contributed to my knowledge of Walthamstow immensely and totally engaged me in the learning process of planning, working and managing both time and tasks within the group, which was crucial in this project.

Our game could have been improved by working as a group throughout the whole time, sharing and combining the knowledge and ideas accomplishing better understanding and completion of the game. The engagement with the whole of the Walthamstow of each member would have enhanced our knowledge and understanding of London more. Regular meetings as a group and better time management would have had a huge impact on the improvement of sequence of the game and advancing the ideas of the game even further. Perhaps, the composition of a plot within the game would have demanded more challenging approach towards the game. Leading to he presentation skills of the twenty clues, which could have been improved, providing clear and more comprehensible tasks for the other group. Despite all the criticism, the final game projected our diverse and abstract approach to this game, making the game very challenging but entertaining for the other group.
